Would be Irvine Photographers: The Essentials of a Photography Business
This article provides - for the Orange County Photographer, some of the essentials items needed for a new photography business.
A successful photography business, unlike many a new high-tech start-up, has been created by numerous individuals. While you may have some unique ideas on how to you are going to create and market your business, don't try and reinvent the wheel. Follow the advice and experience of those who have gone before. The following are a few of the basics that every beginning photography business should have:
1. A website. Websites are perfect for displaying images. The client can actually experience the finished product. In addition to seeing samples of your work, a client should be able to see when you are available, view session results and make orders over your website. In today's technology driven environment, a website is an essential.
2. An attractive logo. Branding is the key to successful marketing in this industry. To clear through your competitor's messages and be heard (and remembered), you must have a memorable brand. One major part of that brand is a memorable logo.
3. A blog. Client's today expect sneak peeks of their sessions that are posted to blogs. When their pictures first come out they will often send their friend's to the blog. If their friends can see (from your writing) that you are a nice, normal and friendly person, they (based on your personality and the implicit recommendation from their friends) will likely be willing to give you a try when their life events require a photographer.
4. Proper equipment. Although there is much debate on how good your lenses, lights and camera needs to by - most photographers would likely agree you can't even get out of the starting gate without an SLR.
5. Photoshop and Lightroom. For better or worse today's photography industry requires you to edit images. For the most part, images right out of the camera will not be purchased. Most (if not all) of your competitors are enhancing their images. If you do not, you will not be able to compete. Clients are not just desire a replication of reality, they want art.
The above are some of the essentials that must be had in order to succeed in the photography industry.
